Let’s face it, eczema, rhinitis and asthma are not fun and you probably wonder why you had to be the lucky one to suffer from one of these. You’re wondering is over, it’s all in your genes. You probably already suspected that you inherited it, but now scientists are finding that it is indeed an inherited disease.

Medical News Today reported today that bmj.com published a study that says that a defect in the filaggrin gene is responsible for the increased risk of developing asthma, rhinitis or atopic eczema for people who suffer from eczema. What this means is, you have inherited a defective gene that has caused you to have an allergic sensitization to eczema, which causes you to suffer from rhinitis and asthma.

What can you do with this information? Well, there’s not much you can do as far as treatment but it can give you some peace of mind knowing why you have to suffer with an allergy. In the future, with more research on the filaggrin gene, it’s hope that scientists will be able to develop a treatment for eczema, rhinitis and asthma so sufferers can finally find relief and possibly even stop the onset of it if genetic testing concludes that a person has the defective gene.
